The keeper celebrated the Second Sunday of Advent in three very distinct, yet all related, acts. We waved good bye as she headed down to the cathedral to serve as one of the readers and then shop at the Advent Bazaar. She says that if nothing else, her presence at the Cathedral helps support the bazaar booths. She headed to QA Hill to sit at a coffee shop and write a reflection for the funeral vigil that evening. Diablo Coffee. Very hip, natural, alternative. Then she and KMD headed to Benaroya Hall for a Holiday Concert led by an energetic Scottish conductor whose name she couldn't recall. But she said it was obvious he was a hit with the orchestra as well as the crowd that afternoon. She and KMD headed to their favorite Thai place on Boren and visited and feasted on curries and coconut ice creams.
Finally she ended up at the funeral home for an incredible vigil that went on for a few hours. Pat, you see, had 13 children, and each gave a eulogy. The keeper said it was the most amazing experience she has ever had at a vigil. It was important for each child to talk, and the stories were poignant and heartfelt. The one she remembers most is about the time they had no money, and the deceased's husband had left them after the 13th child, and they prayed for help and the she told them to scrounge under the sofa pillows and chair pill lows to see what change they could find. They came up with $1.29. Those days this could by a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk to feed the 13 hungry children and their mother. After we head some of those stories, we didn't complain that she arrived home late and that we weren't fed on time. We also didn't bug her about the Zhu Zhu pets either. We think that we are not going to get them. She read an article that said they were unsafe.
