At an Episcopal Ordination

Today we celebrated the ordination of the new Auxiliary Bishop.
It was a very very long liturgy.   Because I couldn't see much,
I focused on the words in the oculus and the beautiful cascade of color.

The retired bishop was in attendance.
So was a cardinal, and maybe 2 dozen bishops,
120 or so priests, deacons (and wives),
and then there were the rest of us,
who are also God's people.

The anointing with chrism was very generous and
the newly ordained glistened.

Miters off for the new bishop's address.

Alliance for Gun Responsibility

Yesterday I didn't make my lunch.
I headed down to the Westin to eat with hundreds of others
and fight for more responsible gun protection.
The food was great, but the program put the keynoter
at the end of the program after they had asked us all for money
and after the lunch was supposed to have ended.

She is Out Again

The more social of the two new housemates
has begun to stare at me when I come home
later than he expects. I am sure he will have
plenty to say about this when I let him start blogging.

At the Arboretum

I have been trying to get to the Arboretum since the beginning of May.
At long last, I took a lomg walk and caught the rhodies before they left us.
Chihuly owes so much to these flowers in the light!

a la Georgia O'Keefe

The red poppies outside of the gate popped open almost overnight.

Ready for Summer Outside!

What wonderful weather!
Yesterday all the deck furniture went up.
Even the hammock swings,
MK gave yellow begonias to brighten the difficult days
of  accompanying a friend into his final days.
But the deck is welcome place to come home to.
It's also party ready!

No! Kitty, No!

The new housemates are testing the limits.
Yesterday Oliver  suddenly found a need to sit and sleep on kitchen counters.
Lucy tried  to scratch every inch of the rugs.

They are not impressed by the word NO.

Today they changed roles.
Oliver went after the rugs, while Lucy lounged on the top of the stove.

NO, KITTY, NO!

Exploring

On Friday Oliver and I went exploring.
I checked out the South Woods.

Oliver checked out the backyard and the mysterious laurel hedge
which holds the stories and scents of many wild animals and visiting cats.

In Harness, and Not

Oliver is learning that the only way he can go
outside to play is if he lets me put on the harness.
He loves the outdoors. He loves rolling in the grass.
He loves sniffing out all the other animals who have tramped through the yard.
He loves watching bugs. He love eating the grass.

Lucy, on the other hand, for all of her alpha style,
prefers to stay inside. She is a little too large to fit into the harness.
She sees no reason to hunt for food or even get her paws dirty since she has me to open a can.

Spring at Last!

Spring has finally arrived in purples and pinks
bearing fragrances evocative of childhood and of France.

Hot Day

It's a little hot for us.
The new housemates feel a little lethargic and are flopping around
sighing, big-eyed,
sprawling across floors
and furniture.
Our house is cool by comparison to others!

New Herb Spiral

Our agency is converting all of the grass between the street and the sidewalk
into flower, vegetable, and herb gardens suing recycled materials.

This one will be our herb garden.

At a Concert

Tonight I left the new housemates to attend St. James Choir
thank you concert. It was a beautiful program, and worth
the drive back into town.  But I skipped the reception so I could spend time
with the housemates and find dinner..

Oliver Steps Out

Oliver slipped out the front door while I was watering the porch flowers.
He was overwhelmed by it all, yet hissed and fought when I
picked him up and brought him inside.

On the other hand, he may have a real talent for blogging.
Here's his first entry which he made by walking over the computer keys and then rolling over the keyboard and  drooling over everything. Such a genius!

The llamas and alpacas came back to the Farmers' Market today.
So did the bucket of carrots.

Sentinels

Look who was guarding the cottage awaiting my return tonight!

It's Been a Week Now!

It's been a week since the royal family tripled in size.
Lucy and Oliver are settling in.
Today we took walks in the back yard with the harnesses on.
Lucy was not amused and lasted not very long.
Oliver, on the other hand, had to be dragged back in
hissing and clawing.
I went out and bought him a pot with alfalfa greens growing.

Congratulations, Rev. Dr. FAL!!!!

Today at long last,  Fernando received his D. Min.
His was a dissertation laboring to be born for many years, I was very happy for him.

Congratulations!

Magic Opera

Tonight we went to The Magic Flute.
We exchanged nights and ended up in the Dress Circle!

But at the intermission we mingled with magical creatures
who stepped out to mingle with us.

Annette even modeled a fetching turban.

Museum of Flight DInner

The aircraft were great, but the guests were greater!

At the Museum of Flght

The Fulcrum Foundation held the dinner at the Museum of Flight.
Sad to say, I ad never been there before.
It has everything from the balloons to the Concorde to spacecraft and everything in between

My favorite was the Gossamer Albatross that crossed the Channel,
propelled and steered by a cycler.

The most terrifying was the stealth bomber with its drone on top.

Day Five: Adjusting Well

Life at the cottage is not like the poet Sandburg's "Fog."
The pitter patter of little cat feet here is more like a stampede.
These felines know how to create a racetrack through the house play hide and seek, scare each other
from behind the furniture.
They must have a wild time when I am out. When I come home I find pillows on the floor,
cat toys strewn all over the house, and two very innocent little faces.

It might behoove me to invest in one of those NEST cameras.
