She left at her usual hour. I watched her pull the car out of the garage and try to pull out of the driveway. But it was blocked. Very blocked. she thought it was the usual traffic snarl. No, traffic was moving smoothly. A huge truck which was pulling the trailer which held the bulldozer was parked across three driveways including ours. The keeper got out of the car to chat with the driver and to ask him to move so she could get out, but there was no driver to be found. She looked on all sides of the street, and waited and stewed.
20 minutes later two men in the ubiquitous safety chartreuse green jackets and hard hats which, by the way, have become the main Seattle fashion staple, came ambling up, asked if they needed to move. She responded firmly enough that they moved very quickly.
But she took a lesson from this---some days it's just hard to park in Seattle. So perhaps it is time to invest in one of those reflective safety jackets and a hard hat, keep them in the car and put them on when the only viable parking option is a driveway and she only has to run a quick errand.
