Let reading week begin!

Reading week has begun!
Let the pages rip!

Breakfast with El Presidente

El Presidente is 18 hours older than the keeper.
He is also a big shot on the East Coast.
They have known each other a very long time.
Today they celebrated advancing age
with a true Mexican breakfast.
Thanks to Carlos and Lupita!

At Lyon Creek

Such a beautiful walk on Sunday.

Farmers' Market

The Sunday LFP Farmers' Market was in full swing when the keeper
arrived to do her small bit of shopping.
The  variety of local vegies and fruits is staggering at this time of year.
She brought us 2 flates of blueberries to freeze, and some loose strife.

There was also good music.

Celebrating MK

On Saturday, MK and the keeper got together to celebrate
another year around the sun.
They opted for simpler fare
and opened gifts in our presence.
Thoughtful.

And MK made a big deal out of me!

Embarcadero Tapas

We understand that it was a very full day in which they logged 8 miles by foot,
and ended on the Embarcadero. A sunny beautiful day and evening.

They discovered a wonderful restaurant, Coqueta,
that served the best tapas and G & T's ever. Unlike much of the Wharf,
it was swarming with locals.

They retired to their hotel in the theater district,
right across from Hamilton's temporary home.
A very swanky lobby.

On Lone Mountsin

After the funeral they hiked up to Lone Mountain.
It's now part of USF,
but it was once the San Francisco College for Women.
We understand that our keeper once considered attending,
but the Jesuits and the option to finally study with men
won out.

She did miss a beautiful view though.

Celebrating the Woman of Valor

The trip to SI and SFO had one purpose:
to celebrate a most treasured woman--
who brought so much joy and love
to so many--family, friends, and those who had neither.

Give her a rich reward for her labors, her good deeds go before her!

Rest in peace, dearest Janet!

At St. Ignatius Church and USF

ignatius and Pedro Arrupe

The funeral took place at St. Ignatius Church and  USF campus.
The center aisle is a bride's dream, and a long road to accompany
A funeral casket.

They Landed in SFO

The plane landed early with a half hour
wait to find an open gate.
The other friends had a very delayed flight, a wait for a
gate, luggage issues.
They went out to dinner and found a wine to describe the
Alaska air experience.

Such Great People!!!

Picnic!

She came home with her orange tee shirt and everything else
smelling like that grill smoke in the pictures below,

There was fun for all.

Feast of St. James

Today was the Sunday we celebrated the Feast of St. James.
He showed up on time, and ready to roll!

Chilling in the Dryer

The day became warm
and would have become even warmer had she not noticed
I had taken refuge with the damp clothes.
It was really nice in there, though!

Saturday Camino

We waved good bye as she headed out to wander the neighborhood
and reach her 150 mile goal for the Camino this summer!
She was pretty pleased with herself!

Bon anniversaire, J and J!

We had a very very late dinner.
We got a little nervous.
She finally came home after a lovely long dinner
to celebrate her friends'  birthdays.
Such dear companions,
incredibly rich food, heartfelt conversation,
and a spectacular view.

Agh! Summer Construction!

We overheard her telling a friend that she is becoming more OCD
with age. she doesn't like messes.
Summer construction has started with Jesus rearing down the old fence,
which also includes ripping out ivy and cutting down laurel bushes, and tossing out all the leftovers from ML's deck project.  Oh, and then he will tear down the ramada and put a better one up.
Meanwhile it looks like a junk heap.
And the painter is also here painting the house and garage.
A good time to leave town, she said.
She wants them all done by her vacation.
We wonder if she meant the vacation next spring.

Thursday Camino

Tonight the keeper snuck out before we could.
So she did a quick trip down toward the lake and
was awed by the sky.

We Didn't Play Fair Tonight

We might owe the keeper an apology--maybe.
She came home and was all set to do her evening walk when we both bolted out
and hid under the deck and the shed where she cannot crawl.  We let her lure us out with food.
We let her catch us, put us in the house and then she would go after the other who led her all over the neighbors' back yards. we did this several times.  She ended up putting in 2.5 miles
paying attention to us, running around calling our names and crawling on the ground looking for us.
We don't think we will try this for awhile again.

cottage painting

The keeper left us in the care of the house painter,
a nice enough guy with lots of energy and a power sprayer which he used quite viciously.
He teaches junior high and when he gets bored with them he switches back to first grade.
We overheard him report to the keeper that certain sides are pristine pure, after 18-20 years of wear.
However, the  south side shed most of its remaining paint when the pressure washing began.
We hear he will be here for a week.  Not only the painter, but Jesus showed up and started tearing down the backyard fence. This means Oliver can not sneak out through holes in the fence any longer.
It's a construction zone here.
We won't venture out till it's over.

Heaven is Brighter Tonight

We lost a beautiful light on earth today,
but  we can  imagine she soared home like a shooting star
to God and all those loved ones
who had been waiting for her.
Let the reunion begin and may heaven be brighter tonight!

Shine on, dear Janet!
Shine on those who miss you so much already.

Shorter Sunday Camino

Today was Sunday, and we have come to learn that she disappears for the morning
portion, just like our previous keepers, and then
she comes home with things from the farmers' market, like bunches of
bright flowers wrapped in white paper.
Then she takes a walk.
Today she explored the neighborhood on streets she had never walked.
She got invited into an open house where a cat named Thumper lived and where the owner was an artist who turned dead trees into bottle bearing species, and who had created marvelous gardens.

She also walked along Acacia and marveled at the sky.
