Passing of an Incredible Man

This afternoon on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, we received very shocking and sad news: Fr. Michael Jacques, the Pastor of St. Peter Claver Church in New Orleans, had suffered a heart attack and died on Thursday eve.  When we asked her who he was, she told us that he was a powerful shepherd, a force for change, who really gave his Sacred Heart for his people who had been so battered by life, and then, Katrina .When we asked why she knew him, she told us that  she and her parish had become the first sister parish to St. Peter Claver post -Katrina, and spent at least one week every year after Easter with them, helping them rebuild, celebrating life, weddings, and new life. He used to come up and visit to tell their story. She remembered dinners at the Five Spot and and lots of potlucks and so many stories.

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone down in NOLA.
Well done good and faithful servant, Michael!
Rest in Peace, you good, good man!
