Misión San Xavier

This afternoon we hear the group spent a very hot afternoon at the Jesuit founded, Franciscan run Mission of San Javier. It is "folk-baroque" style, restored in the last two decades. It never finished the second cupola because they ran out of funds when they were building it.

The door handles are snakes and there is a painted snake wrapping itself around the walls of the church, below which is a Friars' Minor Cincture, and below that, a high priest's tassel.

  1. I love San Xavier so much, especially all the references to our beloved St. James! But it is a little warmish.
