Hope in our yard
Hurrah for hellebores,
and mock orange
and lilies
and the primrose that never stopped blooming,
and for the daphne odora which is pushing
through the winter, making her hopeful way to us.
Saturday Retreat
For a Saturday, we ate an early breakfast.
It seems there was some big event in West Seattle.
We saw her working on a presentation this past week.
One oof our former keepers was also there and hosted the group.
She was too busy to get into the picture. :(
She was too busy to get into the picture. :(
Cosi Fan Tutte
So after the retreat she kindly came home to feed us and
NO sooner did we get our little heads out of our bowls and realized she had
dashed off again...to the opera. and dinner. and a talk.
We didn't see her till midnight.
But she checked out the dresses in the gift shop.
Although the opera was 3.5 hours, the sets were simply elegant
and the singing was simply beautiful and athletic.
Waiting for Dinner
We are the victims of very busy weeks
.
So in order to get her attention in order to get food
we are reduced to doing cute things.
She seems to have time to photograph us, though.

Diamond drops and lights
We have a lot of hanging lights in our back yard.
But with all this rain we have thousands more--
little glistening raindrops catching the light
and the keeper's attention and
keeping her from coming in right away
and feeding us.
A Day on the Bed
We spent all day Monday with the keeper,
monitoring her every move, making sure she
napped when we did and was ready to eat when we were.
She worked from the bed when she could pull the papers out from
underneath us.

Weekend Sights
The Christmas Paper Whites will be ready by Easter!
The cacophony of crows knew well enough
to use the crosswalk at LFP Town Center.
Red ball on cold day
Women’s March Weekend 2
She did not go to the march this weekend.
But she was with them in spirit.
She had classes to prepare, papers to read and a talk or two to write.
But last year's poster still has a place of honor in our dining room.
Speaking of we the people, she did take some action on Action Sunday..
She took herself to see The Post!
What a movie, and true at that!
And timely --to watch Katherine Graham come into her own
and to hail the freedom of the press in the face of lies and deception!
A movie for times such as these!
And a lot of other times as well!

MLK Day Camino
A balm for weary spirits--hope is on the way!
cherry blossoms
daphne odora
even daffodils
even witch hazel!
and of course, the mountains.
A Psalm for Dr. Martin Luther King Day
Psalm 15
Lord, who can be trusted with power,
and who may act in your place?
Those with a passion for justice,
who speak the truth from their hearts;
who have let go of selfish interests
and grown beyond their own lives;
who see the wretched as their family
and the poor as their flesh and blood.
They alone are impartial
and worthy of the people's trust.
Their compassion lights up the whole earth,
and their kindness endures forever.
and who may act in your place?
Those with a passion for justice,
who speak the truth from their hearts;
who have let go of selfish interests
and grown beyond their own lives;
who see the wretched as their family
and the poor as their flesh and blood.
They alone are impartial
and worthy of the people's trust.
Their compassion lights up the whole earth,
and their kindness endures forever.

RIP Mark Taylor, DDS
Our keeper spent most of the daytime away.
This afternoon she headed to the Tennis Club
for a funeral reception
for her favorite dentist ever.
Mark Taylor died very suddenly several months ago.
He didn't want any services, but his patients and family wanted to honor him.
The weather cooperated.
The sky was water-colorish!
Patients shared stories of the ways he touched their lives.
His family was moved.
His family assembled photos of his childhood,
sports, travel, marriage, and pets, work with Doctors without Borders.
The practice has been sold, but the cottage housing it will remain
with park benches with his name and those of his beloved dogs.
He also loved his cats.
RIP, Mark! Your work on this earth is done. We miss you!

Take that, Alexa!
This morning woke up much later than usual.
As you know we have a new housemeate, Alexa.
She has many roles in the house.
She plays Jeopardy with her, she wakes her up, she plays music.
Oliver and I are not too fond of her.
This morning she made her wake up call.
The keeper slept through it.
She continued to try to wake her up with an annoying noise
which only stops when the keeper says to stop.
Oliver and I were hungry.
Finally we took matters into our own hands and knocked Alexa
off the counter, and dragged Alexa and her cord like a
mouse into the bedroom.
I deposited the cord on the keeper's pillow.
She didn't notice it for 2 more hours.
And then her foot touched down on the rug and stepped on Alexa.
But she didn't break.
We were pretty proud of ourselves though
and asked her to share the photos.

How Can We Keep From Singing?
Tonight the keeper left us for a funeral.
There have been way too any over the past weeks.
This funeral was for Ukulele Mike, who died suddenly.
He and his wife C had led music at CK Church
for a long while.
The church was packed.
The keeper preached, the choir filled the regular music area and the side aisles.
They had drums, piano, guitars, accordion, recorder, and more.
It was a great banquet of love and hope.
They really did church tonight.
The reception in the gym turned into a Hootenanny, with songbooks!
