Rest in the Peace You Longed to Plant with Us, Dear Bix

Bill Bichsel, SJ, Prophet and Friend of God

For the last few days we have been lighting little candles and vigiling in spirit with an old friend and hundreds of  his friends near and far as he made his way home to the God who gave him to us---such a wild fierce spirit of prophecy and compassion for  our world. The keeper had been fortunate to have met him and worked with him in her mid twenties, sharing ministry and hopes for a better world. Bix knew and was willing to give his life to turn the upside down world right-side up, whether it was about racial justice, farmworker justice, women in the church, abolishing the death penalty, providing homes for those without homes, and abolishing nuclear weapons.

Thank you, dear friend, for showing us the way.

Rest now from your labors. And may the heavens be filled  with your laughter!
Pray for us that we might wear our mantles with  freedom and joy and trust in God's promises.
