Reading Week Day 1.5

We took the reading outside today.  All of us had our own chairs and places in the sun or the shade. We chose shade. However, you already know that was not the keeper's choice.
We let her have her favorite chair and loved watching her get embroiled in all the Vatican II back stories while she slurped on Popsicles.
She also went for another long walk this morning to get revved up to read. We think she would like to do this forever. It's cool with us, as long as we are fed on time.

Reading Week Chair

The keeper asked Alice to let her have the chair for the week. Alice agreed. We are listening to polyphony and other pretty music.  The house cleaner has done all the cleaning for us (finally) and the yard has been mowed.  We simply have to relax and she has to read and think.

Harvest!

One of the distractions this evening was finding the berries which had grown in our yard.  Last year we had 3 or 4.  This is quite an improvement from last year.

Reading Week Begins

This afternoon we began observing Reading Week. It is not a liturgical season, but the keeper treats it like one.  She hasn't observed it since she left parish ministry, but this year she decided that it was time once more to read theology for a week. So many books, so many journals, so few days. Latino/Hispanic theology, ecclesiology, leadership theory and  some radical feminist papers. But she is earnest. Of course, she has also calendared a few distractions as well.

Birdwatch

Today it was not sunny, nor was it rainy. We spent the morning inside watching the birds twittering around the feeder.  Well, at least Alice did. The keeper had a meeting at STM about her classes this coming year.  But when she came home we went out, and she started Reading Week! We aren't sure what this means for her, but we know it means we get to be outside.

Glory Be to God for Dappled Things

Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

Pipes in the Woods

As the keeper headed home, she heard the piping in the woods. It had drawn others out of their homes on this muggy day as well, and they all sat and listened to the mournful wail as this young woman practiced marching and blowing over and over again, unperturbed by the little audience.
