Saturday Night Happiness

Tonight the keeper was content to sit out on the deck and finish The Orchardist.
It was a fine evening. We were serenaded by the neighbors who were having a great party, and we had even been invited, but the keeper had originally told them she had other plans, and so despite the fact that the other plans changed, she was content on the deck with the book, and so was I.

At Sky Nursery

Sky Nursery has a piano in front with NW birds painted all over. And everyone gets a chance to make music as they enter or leave the store.

They also have some very interesting new garden art for sale.
We did not buy any.

What Came Home

Nothing better than a Christmas gift card to Sky Nursery.
But today the keeper found an even better deal. she left me this morning because she wanted to replace the daphne odora which had died either because of the heat or because of the hornet spray. She could not imagine us not leaving the house in late January or early February without the scent of daphne providing hope to our spirits run ragged by winter and autumn.
When she arrived at Sky she realized it was the big fall sales--30, 40 % off of most everything!
She brought home two daphne trees, another clematis, more herbs, and some autumal looking flowers for the front porch.  Quite a haul.  She spent the afternoon planting.

Autumn Slipping In

Anyone who knows us very well knows that we do not get very excited about the arrival of autumn.
The keeper used to travel once autumn arrived, but not so much anymore. So with the arrival of Labor Day, the cottage takes on a bit of melancholy for the diminishing  light, the chilling air, the return to regular crazy schedules.
But today I wanted the keeper to pay attention to the colors, which are quite lovely. The wisteria is showing a little color as is the maple vine on the deck.

Sunday afternoon!

This is a perfect Sunday afternoon and evening.  I sat out on the lawn chairs, and the keeper bundled up and sat inside and read with tea.  It was warmer outside.  She wore not only her sweater, but a jacket as well. I just wore my usual fur, and it was enough. I asked her if she had planned to wear the socks that matched the rug. It took her a while to figure out what I was asking.

Crash!

Another normal morning at St.James.  It's never dull. This was what the keeper found as she made her way from the parking lot to the cathedral. Two cars, but no people, were damaged.

Nail Art That Looks Like It Belongs on a Cake

The keeper came home on Saturday afternoon with grey nails. Boring, in my eyes. However, she could have chosen something a little more elaborate. The new nail tech trained in San Francisco and could have been a porcelain artist in another age.
