Altars of the Dead

At St. Louise today the Altar of the Dead was a bit smaller than previous years, but nice.  The young man who had created this altar for years had been deported, and now a new family has taken over the construction.

The Great Halloween Light Robbery

Last eve the keeper went out to turn on the Halloween lights that were decorating the Kittyrood area, and nothing happened. Everything was plugged in.  Then she discovered that the wires had been cut, bulbs were missing, and filaments were flying loose.  A mystery, indeed.  She didn't bother to ask us for ideas. But, we would have told her what she discovered for herself today as she looked out the window.  The squirrel, the same one who carried off the hummingbird feeder to his nest, was  chewing off portions of the wires, biting off the bulbs, and then scurrying away to bury them for the winter. This squirrel is shredding three lines of 100 lights each in a very systematic fashion! What a surprise when they try to eat these things.  Although the keeper thinks that that this surprise would be cruel and unusual punishment for the robbery, she will try to prevent any further intestinal damage by cutting down all the pieces that remain.  Interestingly enough, they are not touching the clear lights we forgot to take down after Christmas, only the orange ones.

Alice's Admirer

Last evening, Cecil was thrilled to have some male company, but I was happy to have an admirer who actually paid attention to me and called me beautiful. She can cat sit anytime.

Liturgical Space

We barely opened our eyes and then realized tht the keeper was leaving us this morning quite early. We were fed the proper food and all, but we knew his would be a very long day. It began with  a talk  in Spanish to the parenting group in Bellevue and  then moved to First Hill, to the Cathedral where our keeper is overseeing a young Jesuit's doctoral dissertation/project.  He is focusing the attention of  this group of Hispanic leaders on the importance of liturgical space and time. Today they toured both the SU Chapel and St. James Cathedral.

A Lovely Night

Tonight the keeper hosted an incredible dinner with incredible guests whom we all enjoyed immensely. They were very kind to us and shared some of their wild salmon. They also solved a portion of the ecclesiastical issues facing the church today.  It's amazing what good appetizers and margaritas can accomplish ( not counting great grilled entrees!).  As well as an additional hour in the switch of falling back. World leaders: please note bene!  This stuff works!!

Lunch with Two Saints

We hear that the keeper was ecstatic with her Red Curry Chicken,  Maria loved her shrimp with the glass noodles, and Magnolia was wild about her crab noodles. These two women have seen so much and lived lives for which the keeper can only stand in awe.  Such faithfulness, such grit, such generosity!  And the keeper has nothing but praise for Bai Tong Restaurant in Redmond!

All Saints Invitation

On Sunday afternoon our keeper received an invitation by a parishioner in Bellevue to join her for lunch.  The keeper had helped her achieve a major victory and now the parishioner is heading home to South America. The keeper had never heard of the restaurant before, but when she arrived, she realized this was a very special spot.  The reception area wall is covered with awards and rave reviews.
