A Fifth Generation Leather Artisan

Michael is a fifth generation leather artisan.

His mother paints the beautiful DeRuta pottery.

He was very charming and there was also a discount.

There were no cat collars or capes, though.

Assisi on a 20 Degree Afternoon

The travelers arrived in Assisi  on a chilly  afternoon.
The. View from their window looks onto  the Umbrian valley and onto historic  churches.

It is clearly still winter here.



Yet the birds’ singing fills the air.
The trees are budding

.

And the piazza fountain and every fountain is filled with ice
that’s even the schoolboys cannot break.
The fierce lions are miserable.

Snowy Roma

Like in Seattle, snow disrupts everything!

Schools were closed, buildings and tours closed.

Everyone seemed to go out to try to walk or slip in it.

The snow turned to slush that turned to ice quickly.

Icy night in Vatican City

The pilgrims met Jesse,SJ,  from the Curia.

They had a fine dinner at the Three Puppets.

They made their way home carefully single file on the ice.

They are staying in an old palazzo with a courtyard.



They have a pretty famous neighbor.

They went out to pay a visit.

He wasn’t in, but the famous fountains

And the many sleeping out under the colonnades greeted them.
