Preparing for Los Días de Los Santos y Los Muertos

Tonight while we waited for the non-arriving trick or treaters
we prepared our Altar for the dias de los Muertos.
This year we had a side for family and another for friends and mentors.
We lost family and dear friends these last years.

Last Supper for Now

I ate a little early because she had a farewell dinner.
Joseph and Richard are moving to their new home in the desert next week.

They reminisced and heard wild tales of thieves and robbers..

They promised to gather in Palm Springs
when the worst of the rains hit here.

Adventure 3: Hansel and Gretel

They left the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in time for Mexican dinner
and a wonderful night at the opera.

The staging included a home made out of a cardboard packing box, and a witch's home
made out of big box store shelves of sweets.

They ran into quite a few familiar faces from their place of worship.

221b Baker Street Comes to PSC

She and her friend SL headed to 221b Baker Street which temporarily moved to the Science Center.

After learning about 19th Century forensic medicine, they learned about soils and ballistics, blood spatters, and poisons.

Then they paid a call to 221b Baker Street, where they were given a case to solve.

They visited the crime scene, and struggled to sort out the truth from fiction.

They tested poisons, and studied blood, and tried to determine if the body was
dragged down to the Thames.

They failed to solve the case, even though they had been bright students of logic in the day.

Dia de Los Muertos At Seattle Center

She left me this afternoon with a bowl of dinner, so I knew she would be home late.
She headed to the Center for a round of adventures.

It started at the Armory for the annual Dia de los Muertos celebrations.

Las calaveras were part of the welcoming team.

All generations took part.

There were regional music and dance performances and sugar skulls.

And many groups had set up very detailed altars to remember
deceased family and friends.

Ballot

Today was a major day.
We mailed the ballot and I approved her choices.
She also mailed her little I Phone 5 back to Apple.
But we are now officially finished with electoral craziness,
at least in this house.

An Afternoon at T-Mobile

At the beginning of the month the keeper stopped in to check on her T-Mobile status and learned she was eligible for a new I Phone.
While she was gone her new phone arrived.
Finally she spent an afternoon with Adante who was most fascinating conversationalist ever.

Home Colors

Dare we say this?
The fall colors in Seattle are at least, if not more, brilliant
than those in Boston right now.
On her unplanned walk this morning, the keeper found the golds and oranges quite brilliant,
even if the old I Phone doesn't capture them as clearly as the human or feline eye.

Our neighbor's fetching fruity bush
whose name we do not know

Tapas Bars and Irish Pubs

Boston has a collection of tapas bars. Some of them attract a very young hip crowd.
The keeper and her friend chose a more subdued location.

It was all good except for the rabbit pate.

The night ended at an Irish bar in West Roxbury
where Larry joined them in his very hip hat.

Bapst Hall and Burns Library

The keeper wanted to spend the whole afternoon in this old space.

She poked her head into a meeting room.  Suddenly  lights came on
displaying two stained glass windows---celebrating light overcoming the darkness
in the Celtic and Christian traditions. The smaller window celebrates the
monk, the scribe, illuminating the word.

On the main stairs all of the stained glass celebrate the word of Shakespeare.

Gasson Hall

Boston College came into being because Harvard
would not admit Catholic students a long time ago.
They did their best to match the Ivy League.

Gasson Hall, the oldest building, has a rotunda celebrating  the creation of the school
with a sculpture of St. Michael conquering Lucifer.

At St. Ignatius Church

Every week the School of Theology and Ministry gather for Mass at St. Ignatius Church followed by a lunch for students and professors. Very impressive.

In la Profesoras Office

The professor has a new office, bigger than the last one.
La Virgen de Guadalupe and St. Lucy command major portions of the wall.

At B C

The keeper spent the day exploring Boston College where her friend teaches.

It's full of fall color,

Art like this Tree of Life,

Wild Turkeys roaming the grounds, and

the mansion which belonged to the Boston Cardinal, which now has become a museum.
She  saw an illuminated copy of Augustine's City of God there.
